Jaisalmer fort , situated in Jaisalmer city of Rajasthan
It is one of the largest fort of Rajasthan built in 1156 AD by its ruler Rawal Jaisal.
Situated in amidst Thar Desert this fort stand still with its massive yellow sandstone walls. Fort is divided into three layers.
Outer layer is made of solid yellow stone which gives a light honey gold effect during sunset, because of this slight goldy effect it is also called as Golden Fort or Sonar Quila by local.
Second layer of Jaisalmer Fort is built like a snake crawler and third layer inside snake wall which was used as precautionary wall by Rajput warriors from enemies where they use to spill hot oil and water ,throw rocks.
Fort is declared as world heritage site by UNESCO in 2013 under the group of Hill Forts of Rajasthan.
